How We Are Funded

The nonprofit organization Rhode Island Mayoral Academies is funded entirely through local and national philanthropic grants and awards. The organization does not receive local or state tax dollars for its operations.

Each mayoral academy is a public school and open to all age-appropriate students who reside within the mayoral academy’s sending cities and towns. Like all public schools, mayoral academies are funded by a combination of local and state tax dollars.

In addition, RIMA and its partnering school operators work hard to raise additional funds for starting new mayoral academies through local and national sources.

RIMA is currently funded through grants from:

McAdams Charitable Foundation, Hassenfeld Family Foundation, Annie E. Casey, Walton Family Foundation, Nellie Mae Education Foundation, Carter Family Charitable Trust, and the Rhode Island Foundation
