In addition to a coalition of elected officials, RIMA is supported by a broad coalition of education, business, philanthropy, community and advocacy organizations. Many of Rhode Island's prominent political, corporate, and community leaders signed an open letter in support of the Rhode Island Mayoral Academies plan.
On April 13, 2009, inspired by the potential of the reform efforts in Rhode Island, a broad array of national education reform leaders signed their own open letter in support of opening the first mayoral academy school.
